Beware Long Term Pay Per Click Agreements

<p>If you have an online business, pay per click advertising is by far the easiest way to quickly get traffic to your site. That being said, the process has become fairly complex and many sites now hire a third party to create and manage their campaigns. There is nothing wrong with this, but beware of long term agreements. <p> Advertising on the web is entirely different than brick and mortar advertising in many ways. One of the biggest differences relates to the ability to target market to such a fine focus that you can really nail down whether and advertising campaign or business idea will work pretty quickly. With pay per click, it is a matter of simply setting up a campaign, slapping down a credit card and waiting a couple of hours before traffic starts hitting your site. Obviously, there are issues like ad copy, return on investment and so on that you need to consider, but this is basically it. <p> When you hire a pay per click firm, they should be able to get your campaigns up and running fairly quickly. Once up and running, the results will need to be analyzed to see if you are spending more than you generate in revenue. Even if you are profitable, you will need to refine the campaign to maximize the profitable elements and discontinue those that are costing you money. How long will all of this take? Maybe a month or two. <p> The point of all of the above is pay per click advertising is a quick process. Given this, why would you enter into a year long agreement with any PPC firm? You shouldn't. You have no idea if they can produce and really provide them with no motivation to do so. They are going to get paid for a year anyway, so what's the rush for them? There is none and that usually means bad news for you. <p> Most pay per click campaigns should be run on a month-to-month basis. This keeps the PPC company on their toes. You might here an objection from them that they are revealing their strategies and such up front. This is somewhat true, but mostly a bluff. Why? Clients almost never take over PPC campaigns because they don't have the time to deal with them or know what is happening. Also, the strategy should change throughout the year as most businesses go through different buying/selling periods. <p> There is no need to enter into a year long agreement with a PPC company before you have any idea of what they can or cannot do.
